Whitefish, Montana

Clean-cut, classy Whitefish has enough resort-town swankness to elicit oohhs and ahhs—and the humble Montana upbringing to keep real about it. Sure, cosmopolitan winter wayfarers may arrive via locomotive, sample famous sushi, shop boutiques, and room in plush restored rail cars; but more often then not, we catch them tackling a third-pound greasy burger at the town watering hole, the Bulldog Saloon.

Arlee, Montana

Had always wanted to go to a powwow and when some friends participated in the Arlee Powwow, which is hosted every year around the 1st of July, I went up andspent a couple days and really enjoyed myself and lovedwatching the different dances and learning all about them. The outfits are beautiful and very colorful also.

Great Falls, Montana

Cowboy culture clashes right into 1960s kitsch to create the singular appeal of Great Falls. By day, you’re in full John Wayne mode, absorbing frontier artifacts and Wild West artwork at the CM Russell Museum and reliving Native American history at the First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park. Cowboy culture clashes right into 1960s kitsch to create the singular appeal of Great Falls. Red Lodge, Montana

Red Lodge is one of those charming little Montana towns that sucks you right in. Maybe you just stop for a burger at Red Box Car. Then the aroma from City Bakery wafts by…
